Rare Coyuchi Cotton Embellished Huipil, Oaxaca

Another beauty from Las Sanjuaneras weaving cooperative in San Juan Colorado, on the Oaxaca coast! This huipil top is light and airy gauze perfect for summer. It features supplementary weft designs in handspun coyuchi and native white cotton, both pre-Hispanic varieties and rare. The base cloth is dyed with alderwood bark. It can take up to three months to weave a garment like this on the backstrap loom. Note: this is a discounted price because there are minor imperfections in the weave.  Wash on gentle or by hand, hang to dry.
Measures 26” wide x 32” long.
