Artisans in the highland village of Pinotepa de Don Luis cultivate this tree, harvest its fruit, clean it, and dry it. It performs like wood, but is much thinner and more flexible, making it light and comfortable to wear. After the jicara is dried and formed, they then meticulously carve designs that represent the local flora and fauna of the region.
