Oaxaca Handwoven Multi-Colored Super Large Shoulder Bag

From the Papaolapan region of Oaxaca, high in the remote mountains on the way to Veracruz is the village of San Felipe Usila. It takes about nine hours to get there from Oaxaca City. Our friend and weaver Hermalinda Isidro wove this bag on the back strap loom. It features motifs found in the gala dresses of the village that are worn only on festival days. It is a masterpiece of color, texture and design. The patterning is created using the supplementary weft weaving technique and is not embroidered.

Measures 11-1/2″ wide x 16″ high. Crotched shoulder strap is 29″ end-t0-end.
