Ixtle Market Bag from Chiapas

Ixtle (agave fiber) handwoven market bag with adjustable leather strap. It comes from Magdalena Aldama, Chiapas, a small villages nestled in the highlands. Caramel color is achieved by hanging it over a smokey wood fire. A bag this size takes about three months to make. The agave leaves are harvested, soaked, stripped, pounded, and then put on a small loom to be worked by hand. The leather strap comes from local vacas (cowhide). 

Bag body is 15” wide x 16” long.
